Spirit Filled

Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit…
Ephesians 5:18 NIV

You are full of something. It’s a reality you can’t avoid, hide from, or ignore. In fact, the “something” that you are full of is bound to make itself known. Who you really are, deep within, will always permeate right up through your skin. This is really great news, especially if who you actually are inside is exactly who you want others to come into contact with on the outside. There is great joy in authentic relationships, truly knowing and being known. Incredible freedom is experienced when you are open and honest, especially with those whom you are closest with and love deeply. Inevitably, this great reality becomes a problem when you would rather keep hidden from public view the unpleasant entities of your soul. We all have less than desirable aspects of our character, and recognizing there is progress to be made in our lives is the first step to finding the solution.

When my wife Sarah and I were dating, I owned a 1963 Volkswagen Bus. It was white and jade green, and I loved to drive it, especially when Sarah was in the passenger seat. Whenever I would go to pick her up for a date, I would always make sure the bus was clean. I washed it the good old fashioned way, with a bucket of soapy water and a sponge. When a sponge is squeezed, whatever it was soaked in comes gushing out all over the place. If you want the sponge to produce a different result, you must submerge it in a new source. Your life is a sponge, submerged in a source, and when you are squeezed that same source comes gushing out all over the place. If you want your life to produce a different result, you must be submerged in a new source. Today, Jesus invites you to accept Him as the new source for your life and for your marriage.

VOLKSWEDDING CHALLENGE • Pray for your marriage.

“Jesus Christ, I recognize my need to be filled by You. Please come into my life and be my source. Transform me into a new person on the inside, so that I can become a new person on the outside for your glory and the benefit of my spouse. When the pressures of life squeeze us both, may what comes gushing out of us be You.”
