Leveling a Path

ARTIFACT • FLOWER

SESSION TWO

My heart was already wanting to pound right through my rib cage and out of my chest. My lungs seemed to be right there in agreement and ready to help push it through. Every muscle in my body was engaged at a level that unusually demanded attention, my eyes solely fixed on each next step. The first ascent was challenging, as if designed to deter those lacking commitment from adventuring any further. Our group of five pressed on with the end in mind. Weeks prior, endless messages where exchanged as we prepared diligently to have not only the right equipment, but the lightest equipment possible. The journey ahead would prove difficult, and any extra weight shed ahead of time equated an easier and quicker trek. Backpacking is a lost art, and it was art worth creating.

TRAVELING LIGHTER MEANT TRAVELING FARTHER.

When we reached the first peak I was reminded of my goal for this trip: to enjoy the journey and not just the destination. Taking a moment, I turned around at the top to look back and see where we had come thus far. I could see all the way to the ocean cliffs. Big Sur is truly beautiful craftsmanship along God’s California coastline. Subsequently, at each peak along the Pine Ridge Trail, I stopped for a moment of personal worship. Counting each crest until mountains became sea, I was enthralled with the Majesty of our Creator. The weight and burden of countless valleys and peaks seemed insignificant to the presence of God.

A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
Isaiah 40:3-5 NIV

In life’s rugged terrain, God is leveling a path. Where your spirit is poor, weary, and desolate, He is extending a mighty hand to raise you up. Where pride and self righteousness are exalted, He is inviting you to humble low. May the glory of God freely travel the trail of your soul today.
