Holding the Keys

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Ephesians 5:21 NIV

Submission is a biblical word packed full of joy potential. When God invites us into submission, along with this invitation also comes incredible blessing. The blessing of God is fuel for joy. In fact, God has predetermined to bless our obedience abundantly to such an extent it overwhelmingly draws us back to Him. Our God is a God of order, and He has ordered all things in such a way that everything began in Him. God is the starting point for all of creation, including all human beings and all human relationships. Creation, human beings, and each relational network instantly begins to decay without the perfect order of God. Look around, observe the hurt and pain in the world as the decay of sin and death have ravaged all of creation. The solution for pure and peaceable order to be restored in the midst of decay is found in the power of God. It is only through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross that the decay in creation, humanity, and relationships has been conquered. Jesus is our only hope for order, and to be restored we must submit to Him.

It was an incredible moment, standing on the side of the old downtown neighborhood road. The huge trees on each side provided incredible shade, the leaves touching in the middle, creating a canopy high above the street. I was handed a document to fill out my name, address, and everything else the department of motor vehicles needed to process the transfer of ownership. Exchanging funds and signing on the line I was handed a set of keys. I was now the proud owner of a 1963 Volkswagen Bus. I had held car keys many times before, often the keys to cars which belonged to my parents or my friends. This time was different, I owned these keys and could start the bus up and take it for a joy ride at anytime. Submission to Jesus Christ is the key that starts the joy filled ride of your life, restoring both order to your life and relationships. When you and your spouse both submit to Jesus Christ in reverence, in worship, and in obedience, submission to one another becomes both joyful and desirable.
