A Sacred Mountain
ARTIFACT • FLOWER
I had everything my thirteen year old brain could think of crammed into my bag. Snacks, shoes, candy, clothes, a towel and swimsuit, and more snacks and candy. I had heard for years how amazing this place was, and I wanted to make sure I was prepared. Showing up to the church parking lot, I joined two hundred other students climbing into the buses. Finding my best friend, we grabbed seats next to each other. I could not wait, finally, we were headed to summer camp. After a long, winding road up the mountain into the National Forest, we descend into the Hume Lake Basin. It was breathtaking the way the mountains enveloped the lake. It was if every tree had taken its place in the amphitheater, the bright blue water was center stage, and the heavens draped as the backdrop. If nature wasn’t enough to grab our attention, there were strategic signs all around camp provoking us to consider this beautiful creation and how it pointed to a Creator. Every day camp leaders would challenge us to consider the Truth of Scripture and how surrendering to God would begin the process of us experiencing God’s awesome plan for each of our lives.
THE WHOLE MOUNTAIN DECLARED THE GLORY OF GOD.
We couldn’t escape the message, it was loud and clear, “God is here!”
You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Isaiah 40:9-11 NIV
